Pregnancy is truly one of the greatest and most beautiful miracles of life. This nine-month journey, which is culminated with the birth of an adorable tiny angel, is truly a life-altering experience. And because this is a very big event for the parents-to-be, there are many traditions held to welcome this cute little baby into this world.

One of the most popular traditions is the baby shower wherein friends and family of the parents-to-be gather for an event of merry-making and gift giving. Even though it is such an enjoyable and thrilling experience to organize a baby shower, it is not as easy as it may seem. It requires thorough planning and preparation as well as serious work. If you are thinking of planning a baby shower for your best friend or your favorite cousin, here are some tips to help you make it a successful one:

• Decide on the theme. Having a theme will make it easier for you to set up the party in terms of decoration, theme and program.

• Invite only the parents’ closest family and friends. Having too many guests can be overwhelming especially for the pregnant mother. Baby showers are supposed to be intimate occasions spent with those closest to the parents-to-be.

• Schedule the baby shower in the right time. Proper timing of the baby shower is a crucial decision that you will have to make. Remember, holding it very early during the pregnancy is not only too soon but also stressful for the mom-to-be since the first trimester is filled with bouts of morning sickness.

On the other hand, it is also not smart to wait until the last days of the pregnancy because it is possible for the baby to arrive earlier than expected. You would not want to hold the baby shower in the labor room. A wise thing to do is to schedule the baby shower one to two months before the expected date of birth.

• Know the gender of the baby. It is a good thing for you to know in advance, what the gender of the baby is in case guests ask about it. If ever it is the parent’s choice not to know the baby’s gender, politely request the guests to give gifts that are unisex.

• Enlist for a baby registry. One thing that you do not want to happen in the baby shower is for the parents to end up with a dozen diaper bags, three cribs and no feeding bottles. Proper organization of the gifts will ensure that they do not receive too many of one thing and none of another. All the baby’s necessities should be listed accordingly and if possible, coordinate with the guests what they will be giving the baby to make sure that no gift is duplicated (unless the parents need it in large quantity, like diapers for example). Enlisting for a baby registry at the local baby store is a very good idea.

• Check with the mother if she has food preferences and aversions. Of course, you will have to serve food for this event. Since the mom is expectedly sensitive about food, check with her first before you create the menu.

• Do not forget the diaper cake! Diaper cakes are great for events like baby showers. They surely make the occasion even more memorable. Online you will find a variety of wonderful diaper cakes to choose from that do not cost that much.

Organizing a baby shower is indeed a good way of extending help to the parents since this is not just a fun and exciting party to attend to but also a way of helping the parents prepare for the birth of the baby.
